It’s hard to imagine a more intriguing spot than Market Square. Shaped in a hemicycle—like two Neoclassical half-moons—these notable mixed-use towers are on Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and U.S. Capitol. When the time came for a renovation, landscape architects Parker Rodriguez contacted ORE to help redesign Market Square’s rooftop amenity terrace. The updated space is a serene perch for residents to take in the stately sights of Washington, DC.

For this project, we designed, fabricated, and installed custom light fixtures to place in raised garden beds running down the center of the terraces. These large, lantern-like pieces feature a unique, laser-cut pattern and bronze finish. They provide a sculptural element and a source of soft, diffuse lighting.

The landscape features on the Market Square terrace are situated in a way that provides ample space for gatherings while allowing for some privacy. We built planting beds with expansive soil profiles and solid timber benches laid out in independent clusters. Integrated lighting and a low-profile, charcoal-gray Linear Fire Pit add an extra touch of warmth and elegance.
